Roger Federer Owes Me a New iPhone

Date:September 28, 2010
I'm practically courtside at the U.S. Open -- not an easy feat at Arthur Ashe -- and I'm mentally preparing for the match of the decade. All Federer has to do is surpass Djokovic in the semis and tennis fans from around the world will be treated to a match-up that's been five years in the making: a Nadal-Federer final at the U.S. Open. After saving two match points in the ninth game of the final set, Djokovic is struggling to hold serve. Emotions are high. The anticipation is palpable. The fans can hardly contain themselves. Then, out of nowhere, Djokovic hits a bold drop shot that brings Fed to the net and the fans to their feet. But he's too late. The shot is just too good. Federer missed his chance -- and my brand new iPhone G4 slips out of my hands and crashes to the ground, shattering the glass facade like the hopes of every fan in the stadium. The Djoker goes on to win the match -- and I'm out one very expensive cell phone. Great seats, too bad I had a front row view of heart break.

Federer-Nadal in New York: Is this the year?

Well the game's two biggest rivals have played just about everywhere but New York at the US Open. Personally, i think this is the year they meet in the final. While Novak Djokavic posses a tough test to Roger Federer tomorrow in the semis Federer is 10-5 against the Serbian lifetime and has defeated Djokavic in the past 3 US opens. Rafael Nadal's semifinal opponent comes as a bit of a surprise. Russian Mikhail Youzhny benefited from third seeded Andy Murray losing in the 3rd round to Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland. Youzhny took out American John Isner in the 3rd round, Spainard Tommy Robredo in the 4th round, and in the quarterfinals defeated Wawrinka. Ironically enough Youzhny defeated Nadal 3 years ago in the US quarterfinals. Nadal has since made the semifinals in both 2008 and 2009 and lost to Andy Murray and Juan Martin Del Potro respectively. However i believe the 3rd year in a row in the semis is the charm for Rafa. He's only lost his serve once in 5 matches and ever since he won the Australian Open in 2009 and needed only the US Open to complete the career grand slam (winning all four major titles) Nadal has been driven to seal the deal and win in New York. Surely Roger Federer will have something to say about that on Sunday. Book it: Federer-Nadal in New York on Sunday at around 4:30 playing for the 2010 US Open mens singles championship.

Tickets as advertised-US Open

Date:September 6, 2011
I have purchased tickets for various events for years. In tennis, I have rarely been given the tickets I thought I had purchased. Most companies have a loophole where one might not get the exact ticket they ordered but will get seats that are close to what you ordered. It's annoying to buy tickets that you think are behind the players or off to the side and you end up in seats at an angle. Ticket City promised me the exact seats I was ordering and that's what I got. I'll only use them for future ticket needs. Section 56 was what I bought and Section 56 is what I got....I didn't spend all that money to be moved to an angle view!!!!

US Open

Date:September 12, 2012
this is the second year I have been to the US Open. The tickets are not cheap but each year I miss matches because of the chaos caused by the bad weather and the lack of information available at the venue and the website. This also causes additional expenditure because NY is not cheap. I generally find the volunteers and attendants at the venue rude and brusque and they seem to be free to interpret the rules as they choose. Imagine that my back pack which was admitted last year and which met all stipulated measurement specifications last year was confiscated by a "bag searcher" who informed me that he did not make the rules. A lady behind me with a properly acceptable small leather handbag had it confiscated because it had twi small straps at the back which faciltated her hanging it on her back. Most of these attendants don't appear to meet what I would refer to as the "minimum literacy test." This year I bought expensive tickets for the men's semis and for the finals but I got to see one whole match. The second semi was abruptly cut short because of bad weather and re scheduled but I was not sure when. Having made arrangements to fly back to my country at 12.50 on Monday night assuming that I would see the whole final I only saw 2 sets because I had to rush back on the train to NY to get to the airport 3 hours before my international flights because of the blasted TSA security checks etc.It is an awful waste of my money and not a memorable experience. I am not coming back.

The Perfect Seats

Date:September 12, 2011
Having never really attended matches in Louis Armstrong stadium I wasn't sure what to expect when i ordered my tickets from Ticket City. It turned out that seats 1&2 Row F, Section 109 in Armstrong stadium are the perfect seats for viewing tennis. My 15 year old daughter had the time of her life cheering for Mardy Fish who no doubt heard her cheers of joy and encouragement as he negotiated a win. Thanks, Ticket City, for the perfect seats for what was a perfectly memorable day.

Rain Out Insurance

Date:August 23, 2010
Rain out insurance is a smart bet to protect your US Open investment. The past two years have been rain free which is highly abnormal. Three years ago 6 of the 22 sessions that were eligible for rainout insurance rained out.

Arthur Ashe in the Day

Date:September 11, 2010
We had a good time at the Open this year but it doesn't pay to buy seats at Arthur Ashe in the early rounds. It was fun to watch the matches at the other sites. Unfortunately we couldn't get in to see Harrison play in the match that he lost.
