I'm not a big hockey fan, but went to a Dallas Stars game with some friends who love hockey. The experience at the game didn't convert me into a hardcore NHL fan, but the game was fun and I'm more likely to watch a hockey game now.
We got to the game early and grabbed some food around the corner from the American Airlines Center. Parking was easy to find and affordable (we paid $10 to park close). As we made our way into AAC to find our seats, you could feel the energy in the crowd. Hockey fans are passionate, so the level of energy during a Stars game is different than a Rangers or Cowboys game. Stars fans created a buzz for the entire game and only settled down on the breaks between periods.
Our seats were great and the action on the ice was engaging. The stars won 3-1 which made the entire experience more enjoyable as we walked out with a bunch of Dallas fans. Overall, a great time and I'd definitely go back. If you are a sports fan who who has never been to a hockey game, I recommend you try it once.
Dallas Stars have grown and found its place in a crowded DFW sports market. Even thought hockey isn't know to be big in southern US. As seen with the floundering Coyotes and relocated Atlanta Thrasher markets. But the Dallas Stars draw some great fans. They currently have ownership woes similar to the Texas Rangers, but hopefully that will be cleared up soon.
Even with those problems Dallas has stayed a competitor despite not being able to sign huge name players.
But hockey is hockey and it is one of the greatest sports that might be unknown to many in the southern part of USA.
