I heard their music originally from a YouTube video someone sent me. Then I saw them live at Rothbury Festival in 2008 and was blown away. If you like guitar, you must see this duo.
Gabriella instantly became one of my favorite guitar players. While everyone tends to spend so much attention on how fast guitarists can mange the fret board, Gabriella gives a quality lesson on how speed and dexterity in the strumming hand can make one guitar sound enormous.
The combination of heavy metal and traditional mexican methods (they don't like calling what they play Flamenco, though there are definitely elements to that obvious in the music), played on accoustic guitars is unlike anything you've seen before. Mix in the percussive elements to their playing, and you'll be amazed that this wall of sound is coming from just two players. Do yourself a favor and see these two play live...you won't regret it.
Stubb's in Austin, Friday September 3rd! Can't wait for the show!

Rodrigo y Gabriela ROCK!
Date:September 9, 2010
Went to see Rodrigo y Gabriela live at Stubbs in Austin, Texas last week and I was blown away. The recordings and videos are awesome but can't do justice to the live event. Gabriela is out of this world energized, jumping up and down as she does things with the guitar that make you blush. Rodrigo meanwhile is cool, calm, and collected as he plays the part of flamenco virtuoso - only with a distortion/sound effect pedal to add another dimension to his precise and inspired guitar picking. DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW!
