I have been to many concerts in Austin. I prefer outside venues. I saw my very first concert at 16 (Ani DiFranco) at the original Backyard, and I was heart broken when I found out they were renovating it. It was out of commission for a few years.
I was first in line to check it out when it re-opened for Willie Nelson's July 4th Picnic. I was a bit skeptical as to whether or not it would live up to the original feel. Y'know, things like - Are the trees in the right spot? Is the grass nice to sit on? Does it feel like I'm in Austin's Backyard watching an amazing band? To all I answered YES!
So, when looking for a great outdoor venue, look no farther than Austin's own new-and-improved Backyard!
I absolutely love the Backyard! It is one of my all-time favorite venues. It is laid out very well, with lots of drink and food vendors set up. Also, the gentle slope of the grounds provide a great view, even for those further back in the crowd. It has a feel similar to a music fest. Love it!
